Free Mahjong Solitaire ("we," "us," or "the site") is a free browser game at easymahjongsolitaire.com. This page explains what data the site itself stores and how third-party advertising and analytics services may use data when you visit.
Game data stays on your device
Free Mahjong Solitaire has no accounts, no sign-up, and no server that stores your
information. Your current board, move history, settings (tile size, tile style, sound,
timer visibility), play statistics (games played, games won, best time), achievement badges,
and Daily Challenge completion history are saved only in your browser's local storage
(localStorage), on your own device. None of this is transmitted to us or to any
server — it's simply how the "continue where you left off" feature, your badges, and your
preferences persist between visits. Clearing your browser's site data, or using a
private/incognito window, removes it.
Settings includes an optional Backup & Restore tool that turns your stats, badges, and Daily Challenge history into a short text code you can copy and paste back in yourself (for example, on another device). Creating or restoring a code never sends anything to us — it's a local export/import between your own devices, and what you do with that code afterward (saving it, sharing it) is entirely up to you.
Advertising
We intend to show advertising on this site through Google AdSense and similar third-party ad networks to help cover hosting costs. Ads are not running yet; the wording below describes how they will work once they are switched on.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. These vendors may also use web beacons, device identifiers, or similar technologies to select ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and measure whether an ad worked. We don't operate these technologies ourselves and we don't receive the data they collect — they belong to the ad providers.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com). You can learn more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and opting out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising generally is possible at www.aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, at www.youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out doesn't remove ads — it means the ads you see are no longer personalized.
Consent in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland
If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any advertising or analytics cookies are set. Once advertising is active, a consent banner built on a Google-certified consent management platform appears on your first visit and lets you accept or decline personalized ads, non-personalized ads, and analytics separately. Nothing beyond what is strictly necessary to load the page is stored until you make a choice.
Your choice is remembered on your device, and you will be able to change or withdraw it at any time from the consent banner's own "Privacy settings" control, or by clearing your browser's site data for this site — which resets the banner so it asks again on your next visit. Declining does not limit the games in any way: everything on this site works exactly the same either way.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to see basic, aggregated information about site traffic (such as page views and which pages are popular) so we can tell whether the site is working well. It does not use cookies and does not track you individually across other websites.
We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand whether the games actually work well for players. It sets cookies on your device and collects:
- Which pages you view, when, and in what order, plus the page that referred you here.
- Basic technical information about your visit: browser and operating system, approximate screen size, language, and device type (desktop, tablet, or phone).
- A rough location — country, and sometimes region or city — estimated from your IP address.
- A randomly generated identifier stored in a cookie, so that several page views in a row can be recognized as one visit rather than several unrelated ones.
- A small number of game events we send ourselves: a game being started, won, shuffled, or a hint being used, and which game and layout it happened in.
We use this only in aggregate, to answer questions like "is the Daily Challenge being found?" or "are people getting stuck on this layout?" — never to identify an individual player. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses at all: an incoming address is used to estimate that rough location and is then discarded. We have also turned off Google's advertising-signal collection for this property, so the analytics data isn't used to build advertising profiles or for remarketing. Google retains this data for a limited period and then deletes it.
You can see and adjust the ad personalization Google has for you at Google Ads Settings, you can install Google's browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics, and browser extensions that block Google Analytics will work as expected — the games themselves never depend on this script loading.
Children's privacy
This site does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, since there is no account system and no server-side data collection by us. Third-party advertising, where active, is subject to the ad provider's own policies and applicable law.
